The Accessibility Services Office seeks to provide equal access in all academic, housing, and extra-curricular activities for Aquinas College students under the mandate of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990), Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act (2008) as well as state and Aquinas College policies. Accessibility Services supports students with learning differences or disabilities who experience barriers to full participation in their learning and campus environments through education, advocacy efforts, and the provision of student-requested accommodations.
Depending on the nature of the student’s disability and their individual needs, some examples of reasonable accommodations include: housing accommodations, extended time for tests, alternative or reduced distraction testing location, access to digital textbooks, technology for audio recording classes or lectures, note taking services, and priority scheduling.
Accessibility Services works closely with the Center for Opportunities, Resources, and Excellence (CORE) including ESL and Global Student Services, Peer Tutoring, Peer Coaching, Student Support Services, and the AQ Writing Center and partners with a variety of other offices: Residence Life, the Registrar’s Office, Campus Athletics, the Office of Student Engagement & Leadership, and the Center for Diversity, Inclusion, & Equity.
